During my latest visit to Hua Hin (Hua Hin Hotel review here!) I also had the chance to visit the new (compared to my last visit) night market. The old, Grand Night Market, still exists and still hosts the same food shops as before but lots of the other shops – clothing, music, art – seem to have moved.
It is quite easy to find the ‘walking street’ in Hua Hin. It’s located off Phetkhasem Road (around Soi 93, close to Starbucks & Swensens). The ‘cool’ part however is not that easy to find. Either you find the entrance from the walking street (behind a nice, small and clean food area) or you find the entrance through a small soi off Phetkhasem. There’s a small sign telling you ‘new night market’ but it’s not fancy, not big, not illuminated – quite charming actually.
If you’re lucky enough to find it, you will be surprised with a nice back yard atmosphere, artistic goods, artful graffiti and alike. You will even be treated with a pretty neat and cute gallery. I have to admit that I’m quite impressed with this cute, clean and open style. Usually I’m not a sucker for markets, but that area is nice. If you pass that ‘cool’ area you will end up in market style atmosphere that resembles Bangkok’s Asiatique – at least a little bit (smaller though). If you walk further you will then end up in the middle of the walking street which could be, on a Saturday night for example, quite frustrating (crowded).
I’ve been there on a Sunday evening, hence not many people on the pictures. The Saturday was crazy crowded though – so pick your best time to visit one of the more vibrant spots in Hua Hin.
