How to say ‘Happy New Year’ in Thai

Since I’ve been asked many times what to say during the Thai New Year’s Festival (Songkran / Water Festival) I thought I’d publish this short post to explain it briefly.

Sawadee (similar to sawadee krub/ka for ‘hello’).
Pee = Year
Mai = New

+ polite ka (women) or krub (men)

So I’d say:

Sawadee pee mai krub!
