thai colors
Here comes another fun fact Thai story. As mentioned before, Thais are (and consider themselves) usually as a bit lazy. But while beeing lazy, they have a lot of rules too. For instance the color rule. People working in the public space, are asked to obey to a color scheme. An example for this can be the following (provinces might modify it to their needs).
- Color of Monday is Yellow.
- Color of Tuesday is Pink.
- Color of Wednesday is Green.
- Color of Thursday is Orange.
- Color of Friday is Blue.
- Color of Saturday is Purple.
- Color of Sunday is Red.
old people do not like black. it is reserved for funerals. young people consider it trendy.
Life is colorful!
Now where does this take us? Well…this leads to the point, that I just bought pink and orange shirts. Furthermore I have to wash my green and blue shirts every week since I do not have more than one of them (usually I do not wear this color THAT much). Besides that, I consider my shirts as quite ok, while Thais tend to wear very very colorful shirts. They usually do not just go with a slight pink, it’s gonna be neon…and shining all over the place. I guess something went wrong when taste was spread amongst humans
On one hand they have rules concerning colors, on the other hand nobody cares if it looks shitty….Thai style once more.
We have rules, but if you do not obey them at all times – mei pen rei.
Oh and btw: If you are a farang, Thais are very very ‘flexible’ as they love to call it. Basically they won’t blame you for a ‘wrong`outfit – but if you try to fit in (you will stand out either way – you are still a farang!), they will appreciate it!

The color sheme you describe is not a “rule” throughout Thailand. It’s more like a guideline which is followed by the more serious parts of thailand, especially the north and the northern parts of the northeastern region.
In public workplaces like school it normally is up to the director of the College to decide what color should be worn on witch day to create a certain power and unity within the teaching staff.
