Chakri Day

April 6 is Chakri Day in Thailand, a public holiday to commemorate the founding day of the royal Chakri Dynasty. HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej was the ninth king (Rama IX) while his son, the current King of Thailand, HM King Vajiralongkorn is the current monarch.

On Chakri Day, the king and other members of the royal family preside over a religious ceremony honoring the previous kings. In general people in Thailand are pretty patriotic so holidays like this are still rather important. Especially with prior Kings being highly regarded as important factors in the country’s development this is a very significant day in Thailand.

Just in case you are interested, here a short break down of Thai monarchs from the Chakri dynasty according to wikipedia.
