crossing borders – Vientiane, Laos

vientiane at night

Since i had some days off here at the college I decided to take the chance of the long weekend and simply do what I like to do. Crossing borders. This time not in a cultural way (happens quite often here in Thailand – even after such a long time here) but literally. I went over the border in Nongkhai and went to Laos. To be exact to the Laos’ capital Vientiane.

The crossing of the Laos border

Is not that hard but not that easy either. When you want to take a direct bus from anywhere in Thailand to Laos you need to get your visa ahead. If you do not have a visa for Laos you need to go the border by yourself and buy one visa there. That’s the way we did it last weekend. We went to Nongkhai by bus, went to the Thai-Lao-Friendship Bridge and bought our visas there...

Jungle Flight Chiang Mai

chiang mai jungle flight

As mentioned in my backpacking Thailand post we also did some adrenalin rushing action stuff while touring around. One thing was of course being part of the whole Songkran Festival but the other one wasn’t less wild. One day before the official start of Songkran we decided to get wild already and to be part of the jungle flight. So we went into the jungle in order to meet our flight instructors.

Jungle Flight is a guided tour across the rooftops of the Chiang Mai rainforrest and is one of the coolest attractions around. You basically swing or “fly” from one platform to the other while seeing stunning views and feeling some adrenalin rushes. Some abseiling acts are also part of the fun...

Sukhothai – Thai History closeup

sukhothai, thailand

As mentioned in my post about my backpacking tour across Thailand we also stopped in one of the former capitals. Sukhothai. Sukhothai was the capital even before Ayutthaya and way before Bangkok.

Even though Sukhothai lacks in terms of city flair and further tourist attractions, the old city of Sukhothai is quite worth a trip. It is a pretty huge area (entry has to be paid for each area or for a combined ticket) and it does make sense to borrow a bike at the entrance in order to move along a little faster.

Since it was incredibly hot during our stay we did not manage to see all of old Sukhothai but it was enough to make a long lasting impression...

Protected: Krabi | stay away, please!

Krabi, Thailand

As you can see in my post about backpacking Thailand, I spent some time in Krabi. I did not talk much about it in this last post because I do not want to tell everything to everybody. Actually I would like as many people as possible to stay away from this place. Not because I do not like it but because I simply love it! Since you are special readers (yeah! =) ) I am happy to share some extra insights about this wonderful place with you.

Krabi is quite famous and mentioned in many guides like the lonely planet. Most of those guids refer to the most famous beach in Krabi, Railey Beach. If you are into resorts and family business that’s quite ok. But if you want to discover the real beauty and pure awesomeness of Krabi, you take a look just around the corner and head over to Tonsai Beach...

2 weeks backpacking | Thailand and Kuala Lumpur

Krabi, Thailand

Since the life of a teacher is a very hard and stressfull one (stop laughing!) it is more than logical that we have some weeks off from time to time. I spent the last 3 weeks on the road while backpacking across Thailand and Kuala Lumpur. Here are some of my higlights.

Chiang Mai – Songkran Festival

The first stop was in the north of Thailand in the most beautiful city of whole Thailand. The Rose Of The North. Chiang Mai. While Chiang Mai is always worth a visit we although happened to choose the perfect time for a stay up there since we arrived during Songkran Festival and Chiang Mai is said to be Thailands Songkran capital.

As you can see during Songkran Festival Thailand went totally crazy. Water everywhere. Streets where full of people how threw water (hot and cold!) at each other...
