angels & demons – 7-eleven in Thailand

7eleven-thailand

You are never alone in Thailand. No matter how late, how far away or how drunk you are. Somewhere in the middle of the night there is always the bright and shining light of your shadow, your girlfriend (or boyfriend) that is always at your side. The one and only 7-eleven convenience store.

7-eleven in thailand

7-eleven is a convenience store chain that is quite famous in other countries as well. The USA and Australia for example have made it very famous. But compared to Australia, where I first met 7-eleven, Thailand is a completely different league. The amount of 7-elevens is almost rediculous. In bigger cities there are usually not more than 1 or 2 km (and that’s a lot already) in between two shops. Regarding to official 7-eleven statements the operate almost 4.000 shops in Thailand...

Lost in Translation – Thai Translation: Mission Impossible

translating thai sucks

Thai is – at least for most people from the western world – quite a hard language to learn and to understand and even harder to read. The Thai language does not use arabic letters and has a complete different way of organizing the alphabet or using grammar. So, when suffering from translation issues, it is always nice if you can ask the internet for help. For example Google Translate. Right? Yeah, well….

Unfortunately google and other translating services are not always right when it comes to translating Thai. Since Thai is a language which uses a lot of different tones and pronounciatons it is very hard to choose the right word by reading only...

Sex on the beach – Thai beach style

Thailand Beach

Now that the holiday season in Thailand reaches it’s climax I thought it’s a good time to provide you with some information about Thai beach style. The chances that you will see thai people around the beach are now higher than during other times so don’t be surprised by the upcoming news.

Mai Tai vs Sex on the beach

When it comes to beach outfits and dressing properly for the time at the ocean. No matter if ON the beach or IN the water. Most Thais (of course not everybody. Some have adapted our “normal western” behaviors of course) are afraid of showing to much of their skin. Especially people from the north or countryside are said to be even more aware of that...

Songkran Festival – When Thailand goes crazy

water festival thailand

It is almost Songkran Festival time. This will be my first Water Festival so I am pretty excited to see what’s happening during those crazy days. In order to prepare I will post some information about the festival itself. When coming back from celebrating and travelling I will post a recap as well. But lets start with the background:

The Songkran festival (“astrological passage”) is celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year’s Day from 13 to 15 April. It coincides with the New Year of many calendars of South and Southeast Asia.

The date of the festival was originally set by astrological calculation, but it is now fixed. If these days fall on a weekend, the missed days off are taken on the weekdays immediately following...

Skating Thailand: The Udon Thani Vocational College

skating thailand

Got those 8 wheels under my feet
I can fly so high I can fall so deep
But who do I see coming up the track?
A little green man with inline skates on his back.
(sorry for the bad cover version. See the original song here)

To make it short: I finally have some inline skates again and am now starting to skate Thailand with Udon Thani in the beginning. Today a short warmin up at my college. More to come! So make sure to subscribe to my new skating youtube channel or check the updates on facebook!

Lord of the wheels yo!

Oh and just to add a little more about inline skating in Thailand: It is quite new and uncommon over here. All over Thailand there are said to be about 1.000 skaters. So not really much. Let’s try to spread the word :-)

Today i earned a lot of skeptic views while skating through ...

My Thai future

thailand

Hey there! Since the last posts where mostly about information and general Thailand topics like the weather or festivals I thought it is time to talk a little about personal things too.

My teaching experience here at the Udon Thani Vocational College will end with the next school term. So it is time to make some future plans and get things straight. As you probably all already know I pretty much like teaching over here and I am a big fan of the polite and friendly people as well as of the (mostly) sunny and warm weather. So why leaving?

Right! With almost 30 years it’s time to not always run around from one country to another. Especially when being in a warm and sunny place already...
